What do you get when you add sushi and burrito? Sushirrito! This food combo became the viral food of 2015 in the Bay Area. Why is it so popular? Because it’s a huge sushi roll! Perfect for people hustling all day to just grab and go. But is it worth the hype and for those that actually want to sit down and enjoy a meal? Let’s get rolling!
The Sumo Crunch obviously got its crunchy shrimp tempura and red tempura flakes. Another component that adds a little crisp is the shaved cabbage and cucumber. The surimi crab, guac, and rice were soft and delicate, complete opposite texture of the crunch. Overall, there were a lot of textures; however, the flavour was faint and did not meet the standard of being fresh.
Let’s see how the warm version tastes. Inside is stuffed with Ume-Adobo style pork belly with chicharron, shaved cabbage, red radish, ginger guac, and cilantro. The Porkivore got its fair share of crunch and crisp from the chicharron (fried pork rinds) and shaved cabbage. On the other hand, the pork belly was soft but barely had any fat and juice. Again, it was almost flavourless even with all those ingredients.
Would I visit again? No. Definitely not worth the hype.
